Lex was woken abruptly as Gus jumped into bed with her. “Mum?”

Lex pushed herself up to lean against the headboard. She put her arm around Gus and kissed the top of his head. “Morning, my boy. How are you today?”

“I’m okay. Why aren’t you sleeping in bed with Mama?”

The question she had been dreading. She didn’t want Gus or Maria to know that their parents were going through a difficult time.

“I…I couldn’t sleep, so I went down to the gym to tire myself out. I didn’t want to disturb your mama, so I just slept in here.”

“Oh, okay. Mama isn’t having breakfast with us this morning,” Gus said.

Oh no. Today she thought Roza might understand why she did what she did, even if she couldn’t yet forgive her.

“Why? Did she say?” Lex asked in a nonchalant voice.

“She just said she had Queen stuff to do.”

She’s avoiding me, Lex thought. “Okay, let’s go and get your sister, and we’ll have breakfast together.”

Lex didn’t know how she was going to make this right. But she had to. Somehow.
